Become a Volunteer

Having fun, gaining experience, and helping a good cause all are reasons to volunteer at The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts. You also will receive a discount in the Museum Store and opportunities to attend Museum events. Listed below is the volunteer description we are currently recruiting for in our educational programs.

Duties:

The Museum schedules self-guided school groups Monday-Friday throughout the day. Volunteers greet groups as they enter the museum, give a brief interpretive talk about the museum’s largest exhibit, Constitution Wall, and orient groups to the museum’s layout and rules. While in the galleries, volunteers assist groups with activity sheets and hands-on activities, monitor behavior, and interact with diverse audiences. If interested, volunteers may present workshops designed to correlate with California Content Standards.

Requirements:

  • The desire to share your knowledge of California history and culture with others
  • The ability to be flexible and to work well with other volunteers and Museum staff
  • Must be dependable. Volunteers are expected to arrive 15 minutes before their first scheduled tour, not cancel unless there is an emergency, and give staff ample notification for time off.
  • Ability to commit to the program. Volunteers are asked to commit to one day a week (about 3 hours).
