Admission:

Adults: $8.50; Seniors & College Students with valid ID: $7.00; Youth 6-13: $6.00. Kids 5 & under: Free.

Transportation/Parking

The Museum is a stop on the Light Rail (Archives Plaza). Free weekend parking is available in a surface lot directly across the street from the Museum. On-street parking is free on Sundays. Additional parking is available Monday-Friday at select garages located at 10th Street on the corner of O, 11th Street between P and O Streets.

Brief History

The California Museum opened in 1998 and was initially designed to showcase the materials of the State Archives. Over the last thirteen years, the vision and mission have grown to make the Museum a premier cultural center and destination place with a goal of educating and inspiring people about the richness of California's unique history, with a focus on under-represented groups and stories not told elsewhere. 

Mission

To engage, educate and enlighten a broad public audience about California's rich history and its unique influence on the world of ideas, innovation, art and culture. Through captivating, active and state of the art experiences, the Museum seeks to inspire men, women and children to dream the California dream and dares them to make their mark on history.

Education

A core program of The California Museum is civic education. A special focus is placed on serving the young people who will become the voters, decision makers and leaders of California in this new millennium. Approximately 50,000 students from all over the state visit The California Museum annually for a unique educational experience.

Funding

The California Museum is a self-supporting, tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit organization funded by a variety of giving opportunities for individuals, corporations and foundations, as well as through earned income from admissions, facility rentals and Museum Store sales.
