The California Hall of Fame
"So think for a moment what you would have to do to stand out in a state of 37 million people. Think of how high you would have to dream, how long you would have to stay at your dream, how much perseverance you would have to have, how much courage you would have to have, and just plain chutzpah. You'd have to go out and do what your heart and mind ordered you to do."
--Maria Shriver,
2006 Induction Ceremony
The California Museum inducted the 2007 California Hall of Fame honorees, December 5, 2007.
On the evening of Wednesday, December 5th, The California Museum celebrated the induction of the 2007 California Hall of Fame honorees. Imagine Steve Jobs, Willie Mays, Robert Mondavi, Rita Moreno, Elizabeth Taylor and Tiger Woods all in Sacramento at The California Museum for this special event. They were accompanied by the families of Ansel Adams, Milton Berle, Jackie Robinson, Dr. Jonas Salk, John Steinbeck, Earl Warren, and John Wayne.
The festivities began with a red carpet entrance in front of the Museum where the inductees, their families, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver, guests and government officials signed autographs and spoke with the press. This year's event attracted the Insider and Entertainment Tonight, the Golf Channel, while Kitty O'Neal of KFBK and Grant Napear of KHTK broadcasted live from the Museum. Inductees were cheered on by well-wishers and fans who came out to see their heroes. They stayed on for a while to watch the ceremony on monitors located on the red carpet.
After the festive entrance, the Governor and First Lady presided over the official ceremony and awarded the Spirit of California medal to each of the thirteen 2007 California Hall of Fame inductees. The event was streamed live on our website, thanks to News10. Guests included San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, former Governors Jerry Brown and Gray Davis, and Dina Eastwood (2006 inductee Clint Eastwood's wife and Museum board member).
The inductees and guests were then able preview the 2007 California Hall of Fame exhibit which features artifacts and memorabilia loaned by the inductees and their families and foundations, that bring to life the important contributions of each of these illustrious Californians. The exhibit is on view to the public through next year.
All of this was made possible by our presenting sponsors Accenture, Chevron Corporation and Wachovia Corporation. You can also see a 30-minute video featuring The California Museum for a few more weeks on Comcast's Video On Demand, produced by Comcast, our multimedia partner.
