The 8th class of the California Hall of Fame was named Wednesday, including Sacramento native author Joan Didion, filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and music industry titans Andre “Dr. Dre” Young andJimmy Iovine.
Gov. Jerry Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown will induct the Californians into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony at the California Museum in Sacramento on Oct. 1.
The California Museum said Dr. Dre and Iovine will attend the induction ceremony.
The full class of inductees includes 19-timeNBA all-star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; civil rights activist and newspaper publisherCharlotta Bass; five-time Oscar winner Coppola; National Book Award winner Didion; Beats Electronics founders Dr. Dreand Iovine; social justice activist Fred Ross Sr.; climate-change researcher and university professor Stephen Schneider and humanitarian and founder of Delancey Street Foundation Mimi Silbert.
