The California Museum Girl Scout Badge Programs
The California Museum offers Girl Scout badge programs for troop members of all ages to complete. They are an interesting and engaging way to learn and have fun!
Currently we have three badge programs – Folk Arts, My Heritage and Back to the Past – that meet Girl Scout badge requirements. We provide all of the materials – activity books and crafts supplies – except the badge, which you will need to purchase on your own from Girl Scouts. The cost is $7/girl and $5/adult and includes Museum admission. We require a minimum of 30 girls for each program and they can be scheduled whenever is convenient for you. Please allow three hours to complete the program. Free weekend parking is available.
Folk Arts
Through engaging activities, historians will show Girl Scouts how to “interview” an artifact to discover its untold stories. Folk art is all around us and the girls will get to experience and learn more about the Museum’s collections. They will also create their own piece of folk art based on exhibits here at the Museum.
My Heritage
Push up your sleeves and dig up your “roots”! A genealogist will lead a lively discussion about the many resources available to help troop members on their quest to uncover their roots. Journey through the Museum to discover the many ways people leave their personal stories behind for others to find. Girls will also get to work on their own family tree and play children’s games from generations ago.
Back to the Past
Explore The California Museum through a fun scavenger hunt in the Museum. Girls will learn local legends, see historic maps and discover the history of the Sacramento area. They can then take what they have learned about local lore and apply it to their own community. Girls also get to be storytellers of history as they write newspaper stories about the exciting people and places in the Museum.
