Also known as the flame flower, the Golden Poppy grows wild throughout California. It became the state flower in 1903.

Tissue paper poppy

Supplies needed: colored tissue paper, scissors and pipe cleaners

1. Cut tissue paper into rectangles of desired size
2. Fold all the tissue paper pieces some what like an accordian look
3. Wind one end of the pipe cleaner around the middle of the accordion looking tissue paper.
4. Gently separate each layer pulling upwards toward the middle of the flower.

You then have your completed State flower, the Golden Poppy.
