Journey through the skin of the earth and discover how soils sustain life as we know it at The California Museum’s “Dig It! The Secrets of Soil” Grand Opening Soil-A-Bration on Saturday, May 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A celebration of the national traveling exhibit’s exclusive California stop, scheduled festivities will include:
Docent-led tours of Dig It! The Secrets of Soil, a national traveling exhibit developed by the Soil Science Society of America and designed by Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History
Meet and greet with an endangered California burrowing owl Tana, an ambassador animal from Wildlife Care Association
Hands-on kids’ activities such as coloring with soil crayons and painting with soil
Demonstration s on how to dirt-dye garments and make your own soil crayons
FREE self-guided tours of the Museum’s current exhibits including “The Art of Gaman: Arts & Crafts From the Japanese American Internment Camps, 1942-1946″ closing May 11
FREE face painting and temporary tattoos for kids
FREE hot dogs for the entire family
FREE parking for all Museum visitors
