Museum volunteers contribute their time and energy to educate and enlighten visitors on California's rich past while making positive changes and connecting with the community. Having fun, gaining experience, and helping a good cause are all reasons to volunteer at The California Museum. You also will receive a discount in the Museum Store and opportunities to attend Museum events.
The Museum schedules self-guided school tours Monday-Friday.
Volunteers greet groups as they enter the Museum, give a brief
interpretive talk about the Museum’s largest exhibit,
Constitution Wall, and orient groups to the Museum’s layout and
rules. While in the galleries, volunteers assist groups with
activity sheets and hands-on activities, monitor behavior, and
interact with diverse audiences. Volunteers are vital members of
the Time of Remembrance and 31st Star educational programs.
A wide range of tasks go into completing each exhibit, from
conducting historical research and selecting artifacts to
painting walls and matting pictures. The Museum is always seeking
volunteers who can assist with planning, creating and producing
exhibits, and especially individuals who are proficient in
carpentry, woodworking and with power tools. A dynamic and
rewarding opportunity, exhibit volunteers work
directly with the curatorial department and get a
behind-the-scenes look at the working of the Museum.
The California Museum is seeking volunteers to help with clerical
and office related tasks. As a non-profit office we have many
needs such as filing, data entry, assisting with and preparing
mailings and information packets and researching programs. Tasks
are always changing, so you will never get bored. This is a
great volunteer opportunity that fits every ability level.
General office computer knowledge is preferred.
The California Museum hosts a number of events offering many
interesting volunteer opportunities, from helping at book
signings and lectures to exhibit openings and more! Necessary
skills are a desire to learn more about California and the
Museum, an outgoing personality and an ability to work on a
variety of tasks.
Do you have a desire to share your knowledge of California
history and culture with others? The Museum schedules self-guided
school groups Monday-Friday throughout the day. Volunteers greet
groups as they enter the Museum, give a brief interpretive talk
about the Museum’s largest exhibit, Constitution Wall, and orient
groups to the Museum’s layout and rules. While in the galleries,
volunteers assist groups with activity sheets and hands-on
activities, monitor behavior, and interact with diverse
audiences.
We are looking for volunteers to help with The California Museum
Store. The volunteer will assist the sales clerk with ringing up
admissions and store sales during busy times, and relieving the
sales clerk for breaks. The volunteer will help to provide a
welcoming presence in the store by greeting customers, offering
gift suggestions, while providing a high level of customer
service. This is a great way to interact with the Museum
visitors, especially school children. Hours would vary, any day
Monday-Friday, 3-5 hours per day as needed.
