The California Hall of Fame plans to induct its newest class of members later this year.

The California Museum’s Hall of Fame was started in 2006 to honor legends within the state — people from a range of professions who have made their marks on history.

According to the California Museum, the Hall of Fame is a featured destination in the museum.

Inductees for the newest class include: astronaut Buzz Aldrin; surfer rock legends The Beach Boys, Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn; community activist Father Gregory Boyle; entrepreneurs and philanthropists Doris and Donald Fisher; basketball star Magic Johnson, disability rights advocate Ed Roberts; guitar legend Carlos Santana; contemporary novelist Amy Tan and social justice champion California Supreme Court Justice Roger Traynor.

Living inductees or family members of posthumous inductees are expected to attend the formal presentation by Gov. Jerry Brown and first lady Anne Gust Brown on Dec. 8 at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium at 1515 J St. Then, an exhibit of the honorees, featuring artifacts on loan, will be at the museum at 1020 O St. starting Dec. 9.

The 2010 Hall of Fame exhibit continues through Oct. 31.
