Overview:

Under the direction of the Facility Rentals Manager, the On-Call Events Assistant helps with the setup, breakdown, and management of large-scale Museum events and facility rentals. The Assistant helps facilitate caterers, vendors, decor, entertainment, coat check, janitorial, and security need and monitors the facility to ensure that clients and vendors comply with Museum guidelines and procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Set up and break down tables, chairs, stanchions, signage, events furniture and A/V.
  • Safely move museum property
  • Assist with bussing, removing trash, setting out linens, and filling water decanters 
  • Enforce all special events guidelines and procedures for the safety of guests and of Museum exhibits, such as monitoring no food and drink areas, overseeing caterers’ adherence to rules, taping power cords, and ensuring exit accessibility 
  • Provide logistical support to Facility Rentals Manager 
  • Understand event logistics, schematics and planning
  • Ensure that the museum is clean and restored to its original state at the end of the event; perform walk throughs and final check
  • Perform other duties as assigned  
Qualifications:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, lift up to 50 lbs., use stairs, load and unload
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with Museum clients, vendors, the general public, and outside organizations and groups, always maintaining a professional demeanor in sometimes stressful situations
  • Ability to work well under pressure and demonstrate sound judgment
  • Ability to take instructions and then work independently
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and extended shifts
  • Ability to commit to working specific dates in advance
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Event staffing experience preferred
  • Fluency in English required, other language fluencies are a plus 
Position:

On-call, part time, entry level position reports to Facility Rentals Manager. This position is perfect for a student or anyone who has evening/weekend availability and wants to pick up some extra hours from time to time. Pay commensurate with experience.
